With Christmas and New Year celebrations a distant memory, and with the end of the winter (finally) in sight, we can all start looking forward to the first flowers of spring, the warmer months and those long summer nights!
One thing that the spring/summer months also bring is the wedding season! I’m lucky enough to be on the guest list for a couple of weddings this year, but one thing my bride and groom-to-be friends tell me is that the entertainment aspect of their wedding is a bit of a sticking point.
Many head down the traditional route with a DJ and some special lighting effects, many others take it up a notch and hire a high-class wedding band like Vibetown to get everyone up on their feet. But others want something a little different, but aren’t sure what to look into.
Well, here you’ll find a few wedding day entertainment ideas that will add an extra special touch to your big day.
Bring all the fun of the fair
Why not introduce a country fair or village fete theme to your wedding as part of the entertainment? If you’re already hiring a marquee then why not step it up a gear? Be generous with traditional style bunting and then add some fresh flowers to give it all an authentic look. Hire some small traditional style stalls and create a coconut shy, a hoopla game, tin can alley or even darts!
If a village fete style wedding doesn’t do it for you but you’re still having your wedding outdoors, then why not consider some giant outdoor games? Outdoor skittles, a giant snakes and ladders game, a huge chess game, connect four game or jenga? These are brilliant for keeping your younger guests entertained too.
A little magic
Who doesn’t love magic? Your big day might already be magical in it’s own way, but hiring a magician to entertain your guests with a card trick, a disappearing coin or rabbit could take it up a notch! If you’re not into traditional magic, then why not hire a first-rate street magician?
Do a double take
Do your friends know that you’re friends with David Beckham? Gordon Ramsey or even Wills and Kate? Well why not invite them to your wedding so they can meet them too! Or, maybe just a lookalike or two instead! Hire some celebrity lookalikes to mix and mingle with your guests, it’ll make for some interesting photos!
Something for the little ones
Everyone knows that a wedding can be a long day for everyone involved, especially for the kids. By the time the ceremony is over, and the speeches are finished the little ones are usually fed up! So why not get them letting off some steam and laughing again with some professional entertainers; balloon modelling, stilt walkers, clowns even face painters! The possibilities are endless, some of the adults might benefit from these too!
