Love Sussex Weddings reader Hayley and husband Matt from Worthing got married in West Sussex in April this year.
They tied the knot in beautiful Pangdean Barn, nestled in the stunning Sussex South Downs National Park.
We’re handing over to beautiful bride Hayley for the low-down on their beautiful barn wedding…
We met at Lincoln University, 13 years later Matt finally proposed. But I made him propose twice after I’d chosen my ring too.
We chose to get married in Sussex because we live in Sussex and there are lots of beautiful venues to choose from.
We found our venue online and we were also lucky enough to have some clever creative friends who did wedding stationary and photography for us.
We found inspiration from reading Love Sussex Weddings, magazines and from friends’ weddings and wedding images too.
We had a joint Hag/Sten do as we both work at the same place, then had separate ones.
I did a two night cruise to Bruge, also an afternoon tea at my house including a life drawing session and Matt went out in Nottingham dressed in Lederhosen!
Our wedding colours were: yellow, white and blue to try and match the sapphire in my engagement ring.
We hired some fab older style buses to take all guests between church and venue.
My top tips for other couples getting married would be to be clear on your numbers before looking at venues, as it will dramatically narrow down your search.
Also remember the day is for you, your guests will be getting on enjoying the day so make sure you do too!
It was lovely to have our son and niece be Page boy and girl.
We did some little bags of sweets for the bus journey and my mother and father-in-law made our handmade favours, painting pegs half to look like a bride half to look like a groom, with a little note to thank our guests for sharing our first meal as a married couple together.
Favourite part of wedding planning…
Choosing my dress! It was a good excuse to have some girly time and afternoons out.
Least favourite part of wedding planning
The logistics: sorting accommodation because hotels were very busy and expensive over bank holiday weekend.
We made sweet bags, and used glass jars, marmalade, pasta sauce jars, then wrapped some brown twine around the top them, very easy very cheap and simple but quite effective.
We were very lucky to have so many friends and family to help and run ideas by and support all the planning and the day.
We had an amazing 3 nights in Venice, lots of aperol spritz in the sun!
If we could do it all again we would…
Try not to be so nervous before hand, but wouldn’t change a thing on the day.

Thanks so much to Hayley and Matt for sharing their beautiful Sussex barn wedding with us and to Paloma for these gorgeous photos too!
Some great tips there from Hayley too: working out your guest numbers before selecting you venue can be a really useful way of narrowing down your venue search.
It looks like an amazing day was had by all and we just love how twinkly and magical Pangdean barn looks in these gorgeous photos by Paloma too.
