A Fun-Filled Brighton Hen Weekend! Face-Cakes, Firemen & Friends!

Bride-to-be, Lou

Today we’re bringing you something a little bit different; an epic Brighton hen weekend. For any of you thinking of pubbing it, clubbing it or afternoon tea-ing it for your hen weekend then you can’t go far wrong with a Brighton hen do!

These lovely gals threw in a speedboat ride (the ultimate hangover cure), some vintage hair do’s, a fireman’s lift, and some tasty Face Cakes too! Oh yes!

Over to Devon based bride-to-be, Lou, who came all the way from Exeter with her best girls, to have her fun-filled hen weekend here in sunny Brighton, as photographed by the lovely Gemma from Betti Confetti Photography:

“I live in Devon and work as a teacher in a school for the blind. As well as planning our wedding, me and Shawn are also in the process of moving down to Cornwall, we’re quitting our jobs and opening a B&B so there’s a lot going on at the moment!

I met Shawn when I was 18 and started uni. Although we didn’t know each other well, I saw him around over the years. It wasn’t until we moved in as flatmates when I was 21 we finally got together. We’ve been together for 13 years now.

I actually thought he was joking when he proposed, after 13 years you don’t expect it! We had gone down to Cornwall for the weekend and were walking down to check the surf on a beautiful beach when he dropped to one knee! He’d been planning it for ages and my best friend (who’s a jeweller) had made the ring, we had 2 nights booked in a hotel in St Ives, restaurants booked, new outfits bought…. he definitely outdid himself on this one!

I chose Brighton for my hen weekend because I went to Brighton uni and lived there for 7 years in the end. I love Brighton and have such fond memories of the place I knew that was where I should have the hen.

I didn’t plan any of my hen weekend! I left it all up to my friends which was lovely not having to organise anything but also slightly nerve racking…..

There were 13 girls from all over the place, I was so touched everyone travelled down for it. The stags did Brighton for their Stag do too, but no on the same night!

A Very Brighton Hen Do

My friends know me well so it started with afternoon tea in a gorgeous little place in the lanes. In the evening we got ready to go out at a friends house with cupcakes and plenty of fizz!

They had arranged someone to come and do vintage hair and makeup for us which was fantastic. I also had a surprise visit from some firemen….. Real fireman as they are friends with some of the guys in Brighton. I almost had a heart attack when I saw their truck pull up outside!

We went for a delicious Mexican meal and the rest of the evening involved some great little bars and a lot of dancing!

Fave part of the weekend

My favourite part on the weekend was getting ready to go out. So much fun having all your friends in one place and getting ready together, I felt like I was 18 again!

It was great having Gemma photograph the weekend she’s great at just catching natural moments rather than staged photos.

My advice to others planning stag and hen weekends in Brighton is:

Definitely do it. Brighton is such a fun city with so many great things to do there.

Our wedding plans:

We are getting married in the Guildhall in Exeter, a beautiful building right on the high street. The reception is going to be in the Phoenix, a great arts centre where they hold different classes, show films and bands play regularly. We spend a lot of time in there so thought it was the perfect place to get married.
