We Love Sussex Wedding Proposals!

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, what more of an excuse did we need to re-live utterly romantic Sussex love stories and proposals that totally blew us away?!

We’re not just talking massive rocks or movie-style romances either, as we’ve found, some of the most loveliest and touching tales come from truly personal experiences that just make you sigh and think ‘those two were meant to be together!’. So, stop wedding planning for a mo, and get swept away in all the lurve…

Kristie & Aaron Southend Barns

The “Let’s Take The Dog For A Walk” Proposal

Childhood sweethearts Kristie & Aaron, met at Chichester College, over ten years ago, went to uni together and travelled the world, before returning to Sussex and buying a home and adding adorable schnoodle Alfie to the mix. Their lovely love story was made even sweeter when on a dog walk to the spot where Aaron originally asked Kristie to be his girlfriend, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him! All together now: aww!

This cute couple then tied the knot in a stunning summer ceremony at Southend Barns and last year, welcomed a baby to their brood. Sounds pretty perfect doesn’t it? Read more about their engagement and beautiful barn big day here!

The Action Filled Proposal

OK, so when romantic Richard popped the question to his beautiful bride Danielle, he wanted to WOW her and oh my, did he go to town! There was a picnic, a HELICOPTER ride around London, a chauffeured motorbike ride and then as the sun was setting, at the top of The Shard, Richard proposed!

Knowing his fashion-forward bride so well, this gorgeous (and very thoughtful!) groom had even taken a change of clothes for her for their celebratory ‘official’ photos at her fave French restaurant. We doubt James Bond could have planned a more sophisticated proposal!

Of course, with a BIG proposal came TWO awesome Sussex weddings – one at Brighton’s iconic Pavilion and another at Wakehurst Place! Fancy a peek? Here you go

The Valentine’s Day in Venice Proposal

We absolutely get swept away in the romance of it all, when a groom plans a beautiful proposal that he know his wife-to-be will love. For Dave who asked that all-important question to Sophie on a sort-of shock trip to Venice, via Paris, over Valentine’s Day (cute!), he definitely had taken time to organise such a wonderful experience. Just before he popped the question, the loved-up couple had dined outside, in candlelight, snuggled in blankets, before going for a moonlight walk around Piazza San Marco, where Dave then got down on one knee and asked Sophie to be his wife!

Last summer, the couple said I do in Dave’s family church and celebrated with a gorgeous Fitzleroi Barn reception. Caution: this wedding will definitely make you beam at your screen!

The “This Should Be Made Into a Film” Love Story

Y’know when you read something and think “this is so romantic, I can’t believe it’s real life?” – that’s exactly how we feel about Anna and James!

This loved-up couple, who met in Sussex and now live in London have one of the most amazing stories that we have ever heard. Introduced by a mutual friend, just a few months before James was heading off to work in Aspen, James invited Anna to join him for a holiday. After having a fantastic time on the ski slopes together, he asked her to stay… and well, after returning home broken-hearted and subsequently handing in her notice, Anna was back in Aspen, within a month! From there, the couple travelled around the USA, Mexico and then South America!

Fast-forward a few years and James asked Anna to pick her favourite restaurant for their New Year’s Eve meal, which just so happens to be on a quiet vineyard in Tuscany. After an afternoon walk, James proposed with an Accessorize ring and just shy of three years later, the couple were married in a picturesque lakeside ceremony at Duncton Mill Fishery in West Sussex. *Swoon*

The Personal Proposal

We love all proposals – whether they’re fabulously fancy or loving and low-key, and often the ones that really pull on our heart strings are the simple and personal ones, just like Lucy and Sam’s.

Lucy sadly lost her mum, suddenly in October 2011 and just a few month’s afterwards, on New Year’s Eve (after dreading the first Christmas and New Year without her lovely mum), Sam proposed, in her auntie’s back garden, a few minutes before midnight. While it wasn’t how either of them had expected to have gotten engaged, Lucy thought it was perfect. And so did we! It gave Lucy hope and a great start for a New Year. Best of all; Lucy knew her mum would have loved that she was getting married!

This sweet couple married at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Hellingly and continued their country fete and afternoon tea inspired wedding celebrations at nearby The Sussex Barn. Go on, take a look here

“I Really Didn’t Need to Consider My Answer”

The beautiful simplicity of Andrew and Neil’s proposal story is another that really makes us beam and pulls on our heart strings.

Andrew told us:”Neil proposed to me more or less in passing at the top of the stairs in my house, about five years ago. I think the thought suddenly took him – I said yes, and we carried on with whatever it was we were doing, it all seemed very natural and I really didn’t need to consider my answer.” That last sentence gets us every time, so lovely, it should be in a film or a book! We love Andrew and Neil’s proposal story and the fact that it led to their historic and beautiful Brighton wedding too of course!

Well, it certainly seems that love is in the Sussex air, doesn’t it? We loved getting lost in all the love for five minutes and hope you did too.
