So, Sophie and Dave’s romantic wedding (inspired by their love of the Sussex countryside) is ticking all of our wedding boxes today; there’s a beautiful barn, a bargain cake and a bride and groom really bloomin’ in love. It’s making us beam, as we sit here looking at it.
This gorgeous pair, who live in Worthing tied the knot on 4th July, this year at St Mary’s Church, West Chiltington (Dave’s family church – aw!) and continued their summer celebrations at Fitzleroi Barn in nearby Fittleworth.
Grab a cup of tea for five minutes and just lose yourself in this truly beautiful wedding! Here’s Sophie to tell us all…
We’d been friends for 7 years before we got together, it was all in the timing!
For his proposal, Dave did a lot of planning! My birthday was in the January, he gave me a card that said we were going to Paris for five days in February! Everyone was convinced he was going to propose but I was convinced he wasn’t as his brother proposed in Paris to his (now) wife and I knew Dave wouldn’t do the same.
We arrived in Paris on the Sunday; I was poorly with flu but battled through it as we did all the sights. On the Monday evening Dave told me that Tuesday was our last day in Paris so to make sure we’d seen everything we wanted. Wednesday morning we got the train to the airport and boarded a flight to Venice! We had been to Venice a couple of years before and loved it. Dave had booked us into the same hotel as the last trip, we went back to the same bars and wandered around the lanes again – it was lovely.
On the Thursday (which happened to be Valentine’s day) we had dinner outside wrapped in blankets with a candlelit meal, it was very romantic apart from me coughing every two minutes as I was still feeling ill. After dinner we went for a walk round Piazza San Marco and then down to the water, there was a bench where we sat down to rest and that was when he got down on one knee, pulled out a box with a beautiful ring in it and asked me to marry him.
We settled on a church wedding early on and as Dave’s family had lived in West Chiltington for years it seemed like the most meaningful place to get married. We wanted a converted barn as the reception venue, as it fitted with the typical English country wedding style. We looked at seven barns in total in the surrounding area, Fitzleroi was our favourite by far.
We live in a very picturesque area, a simple country wedding seemed very us, beautiful views, the venue, it all just came together.
Love Sussex Weddings helped…
I loved reading LSW to see what other people did for their wedding and for any tips or ideas!
My top tips for other brides (or grooms) to-be are…
Make sure you have a cut off point the day before the wedding, at the point you stop planning and fretting, it all becomes everyone else’s problem and you start getting excited and enjoying the build up to the wedding.
What I enjoyed most about planning our wedding was…
Looking around all the venues and being a bride!
Our least favourite part of wedding planning had to be…
The last week was fairly stressful, so many things to pick up and confirm!
Our biggest wedding bargain was…
Our wedding cake was from Waitrose and cost us less than £200! It was lovely, very simple but tasty!
Not change a thing!
