Ahoy there, you lovely Sussex brides and grooms-to-be, we have something a little different for you to peek at today; in the (ship) shape of Eastbourne couple, Victoria and Daniel’s AMAZING pre-wedding shoot… on a cruise ship!
Canadian first officer Daniel, (who drives the huge cruise liners!) and Sussex dancer Victoria, met and fell in love, onboard, almost five years ago and originally had their shoot with fabulous photographer; Sarah Wenban arranged to be in a forest near Lewes, however, when Daniel was called back to work early – there was only one place the couple could think of holding their loved-up shoot; back on the boat, of course!
We chatted to bride-to-be Victoria to hear all about her nautical shoot, Sussex wedding plans and why she thinks a pre-wedding photoshoot is a must for all couples!
We met onboard the P&O ship Ventura when I was a dancer onboard and Dan was second officer. We were at a crew BBQ on the mooring deck of the ship (not an overly romantic place, very wet and lots of ropes and anchors!) We soon became each other’s scuba diving buddies and it all went from there…
Ship shape shoot
We had originally booked our shoot to be in a forest near Chailey, but Dan got called back to the ship three weeks early so we, quickly, had to rearrange! The only way to be able to fit it in was if we arranged to have it on the ship, so we asked Sarah and she very kindly agreed! We thought the ship was a wonderful option as it was where we met and holds lots of lovely memories for us.
Dan hates having his photo taken so was worried and I was apprehensive too but Sarah put us at ease and we are definitely going to me more relaxed on our wedding day having had a pre-shoot.
“Having a pre wedding shoot is invaluable…”
I would say that having a pre shoot is invaluable. Being able to get to know your photographer and vice versa is so important and I really do think we will be much more confident and relaxed on the day.
Dan proposed in Canada on Christmas morning (it is also our anniversary)! It was freezing, -25, and he asked me to come out on the balcony to look at the sunrise, there really wasn’t much of one on that day so I was very confused! He had set up his camera to take a photo every three seconds. He all of a sudden got down on one knee, so out of the blue, I really didn’t see it coming! I soon forgot about being freezing and the lack of sunrise! We had a pretty special Christmas day!
Planning our Sussex wedding…
We are getting married at Pelham House in Lewes, East Sussex. I am from Eastbourne and Sussex is, and always will be, very close to my heart. We chose Lewes mostly because we love the town and also because we wanted all the Canadians coming to experience a truly beautiful and historic part of the UK.
With Dan away on the ship until right before the wedding I’m pretty much planning on my own! Although has been very helpful via Skype and FaceTime. We are trying to combine a bit of Canada and England and seem to have picked up a bit of a travel theme along the way! Lots of our guests are traveling from so far away, I am amazed and overwhelmed by just how far; Australia, America, Canada, Hong Kong…just amazing!
Thank you so much to both Sarah from Sarah Wenban Photography and beautiful bride-to-be Victoria for sharing this engagement shoot and story with us. We cannot wait to see the wedding photos, can you?!
