There’s just something so magical about an engagement shoot. We don’t know about you, but here at Love Sussex Weddings, we get swept up in the emotion and loveliness of a couple who’ve decided to capture their happiness of spending their lives together… so just imagine our joy when Amanda and David’s real life (and yes, we mean it happened, there and then!) engagement shoot landed in our inbox.
The couple, who live in London were originally just modelling for fab photographer Sarah Wenban; until David (who’s a West End actor) decided to turn the romantic shoot into an on-the-spot engagement – great idea eh?
Grab a cuppa, a box of tissues – you’re gonna need ‘em and just enjoy. Here’s (shocked) bride-to-be Amanda to fill us in:
Hi Amanda! We’re dying to talk to you about your amazing proposal, but before we get carried away, how did you and David meet?
We actually went to university together. We knew of each other but never really hung out. We were friends on Facebook and occasionally touched base over the years and then David got in touch in 2013 after I posted a picture of a trip to Barcelona and we thought it would be nice to catch up for a drink….
We had our first date on 5th August, 2013 so we’ve been together just over a year. At times it feels unbelievable how different life can be in a year but because we’ve know each other for years, it also feels like the most natural and right thing.
Well, I had actually modelled for Sarah before and she wanted some new pictures for her website and asked if David and I would do a couples shoot. We agreed as we thought it would be nice for us to have some pictures together. At the end of the shoot, at sunset, on the beach, David got down on one knee and proposed. I was absolutely stunned. I had no idea it was coming… I think the first few things I said to him was ‘I think I’m going to be sick’ and ‘you’re doing this now?’ But after the initial shock I was elated. I had no doubt that he was the man for me and so my answer was easy!
We’d talked about getting engaged but we had a holiday booked a few weeks later so I was sort of expecting it to be then. Unbeknown to me, he had called Sarah the night before to tell her of his plan. I am so thrilled he decided to do it then, and in that way, as we have the most beautiful pictures of that special moment that I can cherish and look back on.
I love the beach and sunset and so it just felt like a great location. Sarah had also suggested it because of the various options available such as the promenade, the pier, the beautiful views etc. She also knows the area really well which helped ensure we were at the best locations rather than traipsing around. David also has god-children in Brighton so we spent the morning with them.
Not really. David, being an actor, is rarely shy and thankfully my experience in front of the camera when I was younger really helped. It was really fun and definitely prepared us for photos on the big day!
Absolutely do it. It’s great practice, a lovely way to get to know your photographer and so lovely to have some great shots of you as a couple. It’s important to not over think it and to just relax, enjoy it, let your photographer guide you, take some shots along of images you’ve seen in mags that you like and want to re-create and just have fun! No-one else has to see the pics but you but I think you’ll love them. This is the happiest time of your life so it’s lovely to capture it!
My mum and stepdad live in Greece and so we’ve decided to do it there, at sunset next July. We’re at fairly early stages but very excited. Our save the dates have gone out! We’re also doing a celebration in London for friends and family unable to join us in Greece. David and I are so excited and can’t wait!
Like the couple’s sunset engagement, their Greek wedding already sounds very romantic! We wish Amanda and David lots of love and luck with their big day planning and thank them so much for sharing their special moment with us! Of course, another HUGE thank you goes to their photographer, Sarah who documented this truly memorable day, perfectly – we don’t know how she kept quiet; we would have burst!
