A Brighton Themed Wedding at Horsted Place: Alexandra & James

Horsted Place Hotel Uckfield Wedding

This week we’re going back to sunny June for Alexandra and James’ big Brighton wedding day! The beautiful Brighton-based couple tied the knot in a traditional ceremony at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Brighton, continuing the Brighton theme with a delightfully decorated reception at Horsted Place Hotel in Uckfield.

Brighton Pier Wedding Cake Helter Skelter

All we’re saying is; look out for lots of brilliant Brighton touches (like this amazing Brighton Pier Helter Skelter cake!)… Enough from us, over to the blushing bride, Alexandra for more….

“Me and James met when we were 17 after leaving school. Surprisingly, we hadn’t met before despite having been at Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Brighton together!

James proposed on the London Eye which was very romantic. However, James’ nanny gave away the surprise (by accident!) a week before so secretly I knew he was going to propose! This meant I knew to get my nails done in advance…

We wanted to get married in Brighton as it’s our hometown and is very special to us as it’s where we met. We wanted to incorporate it into our day as much as possible.

We decided to have a traditional wedding with a cream and gold colour scheme but with a Brighton twist.

Perfect Personal Touches

I had 12 bridesmaids so it was a huge task for the fabulous shop staff to take on measuring, making and altering to suit all the girls’ different heights and sizes. They all looked so beautiful!

James chose all aspects of his suit including buttons, pockets and lapels. He had his granddad’s button sewn onto his suit as he was such an important part of James’ life and is sadly missed. James also had the date of our wedding sown on the inside pocket which was a lovely surprise on the day!

My favourite thing about planning the wedding was bringing friends and family closer, spending time together and hearing different family members and friends experiences of their day.

James’ nanny made beautiful little linen bags decorated with a small red rose to hold Brighton rock, given as our wedding favours. Our bridesmaids and top table had individual bags made for them too.

My top tip for other brides: relax!  Take a few moments every so often to look around and take it all in so you can treasure every minute.

Our amazing cake embraced the Brighton theme and our personalities with us sliding down the helter skelter on Brighton pier. We really loved it!

If we could do it all again…We’d do it exactly the same! We wouldn’t change a thing about our wedding!”

Oooh! At Love Sussex Weddings HQ we are loving this wonderful traditional-with-a-twist wedding! Alexandra looked amazing in her princess style gown, while the dapper groom’s personal suit touches (his late grandad’s button and the date of his big day sewn into his suit!) had us reaching for our hankies. The Brighton theme worked brilliantly too: we love the Brighton Pavilion seating plan, Brighton rock filled favour bags and the helter skelter cake of course! Clearly everyone involved had a great time.

Thank you to Alexandra and her husband James for sharing their wonderful day with us and a huge thank you to the one and only Darren Cool for sending us these gorgeous photographs!
