Living up to the less is more theory, Hove-based Ian and Jenny’s Autumnal big day is refreshingly non-traditional, focusing on fun, food and well, that mini wedding dress!(Top marks for bridal pins from us!)
Over to the oh-so-chic bride, Jenny to tell us more:
Love Sussex Weddings: Hello Jenny! Wow, what an elegant wedding! What made you want to get married in Sussex?
Jenny: We’ve lived in Sussex for a few years. It was important to us to have our friends and family come to the place we’ve made our home. We were also keen to have a city wedding, both because we love Brighton and because we wanted everyone to be able to walk from place to place.
Love Sussex Weddings: So, tell us, how did Ian propose?
Jenny: Ian proposed to me on my birthday on the bandstand on Brighton seafront. It was dark and the bandstand was all lit up. It was a complete surprise but a very happy one!
We also had our engagement shoot on Brighton beach.
Love Sussex Weddings: Oh how lovely! We loved your simple yet stylish wedding. Where did you get your inspiration from?
Jenny: We wanted it to have an Autumnal feel. We didn’t want anything too showy and wanted things to be fairly laid-back for our guests.
We didn’t do it the ‘traditional way’ we didn’t have a colour scheme, bridesmaids or best men, we just tried to keep things simple. I think we just wanted to avoid too much formality so we could get on with the eating and drinking!
Love Sussex Weddings: Sounds good to us! So how did you start planning your wedding?
Jenny: It was a combination of on-line research and word-of-mouth. A friend recommended The Coach House as our reception venue and it turned out to be a fantastic decision.
Love Sussex Weddings: It looks fabulous! We loved your table decorations too. Did you make them?
Jenny: Yes, we made the seaside feel table decorations and place name settings.
We also made a guest book from our pre-wedding photo shoot, which we asked everyone to sign.
We made our own save the date cards too, drawn by Ian and made into postcards and our own invitations with a little help from a friend.
Love Sussex Weddings: Aww lovely! So tell us, what were your favourite and least favourite parts of planning your wedding?
Jenny: Our favourite parts had to be choosing the wine and the food.
Our least favourite bit was working out how to pay for it!
Jenny: It’s sort of a cliché, but I’d say the most important thing is to remember that it is a day for the bride and groom. It’s easy to get caught up in the expectations of others. Luckily, our families and friends were really laid-back and helpful.
