A little while back Hanna from Union Jewellery in Brighton got in touch with us to see if they could tell our readers all about the statement jewellery they provided for a beautiful ‘Hippy Luxe’ bridal inspiration photo shoot by Lisa Devlin last year.
We were intrigued to know more about the bold and beautiful jewellery pieces used in this gorgeous shoot and we also asked Hanna to tell us her thoughts on bridal jewellery trends for 2013.
You may recognise the ‘Hippy Luxe’ wedding inspiration shoot, which was part one of Lisa Devlin‘s Photography Farm workshops for wedding photographers last year, fashion styled by Kat from Rock n’ Roll Bride who also first featured the shoot. Kat’s sister and sister’s boyfriend are the gorgeous bride and groom models.
Over to Hanna from Union Jewellery for more about the jewellery from this shoot and bridal jewellery trends for 2013 . . .
“As always, it was great to be involved with the Photography Farm photo shoot. The theme for this shoot, ‘Hippy Luxe Wedding’ found us pulling together bold, colourful pieces not traditionally associated with weddings. The pieces from Akong London, Dicha, Alice Menter, Miquella and Rings Eclectic combined a luxurious, bohemian look.
The Orient-inspired embellished stole from Akong’s Imperial collection features regal gold, turquoise blue and red which complemented the bride’s amazing headdress made especially for the shoot.
We also chose the Dina necklace by Dicha which features a vintage gold centre motif set with semi precious stones.
The ring worn by the bride is by Californian designer Melanie Lynn – she created the brand Rings Eclectic, making exquisite cocktail rings using acrylic, crystals and glass as well as semi precious stones such as Turquoise which was used in the shoot.
The cuffs pictured are by up and coming designer Alice Menter who has had a lot of press attention since she launched her jewellery label in April 2011. Her signature cuffs are hand-woven with hexagonal nuts, they make a truly unique statement and fitted Photography Farm’s brief perfectly.
The bride also wears a stunning, Swarovski crystal knot bracelet by London-based brand Miquella, the layering of the jewellery contributes to the luxurious feel of the shoot, more is more in this instance!
The style of this shoot might not suit every bride but the end result is unique, inspiring and beautiful. This shoot really shows how it is possible to incorporate colour and vibrancy into a bride’s wardrobe. A statement piece of jewellery can definitely add glamour to a wedding dress, it just needs to be chosen carefully!
Now on to bridal jewellery trends for 2013. . .
Bridal jewellery is without doubt becoming more fashion orientated. Women are very aware of what is available, researching particular options or colours and are open to following a bespoke route rather than an off-the-shelf purchase.
In the aftermath of the Queen’s Jubilee, sparkle is still high on the list of criteria and this will continue into next season. Diamonds have been the focus of many celebrity engagement rings, as have coloured stones, and this is bringing about a clear shift in consumers looking for something ‘different’. A fine example is the surge in interest for Duchess of Cambridge-inspired oval sapphires. Customers are also increasingly interested in more affordable stones such as amethyst, citrine, onyx and blue topaz. Three-stone and cluster style rings are receiving more attention, often providing a greater ‘show’ of sparkle than a single stone for a similar cost. The demand for vintage-looking jewellery continues this season as does the trend for embellishment and baroque-inspired detail, combining crystals and intricate embroidery. Rose gold continues to be a really popular alternative metal for bridal jewellery – its beautiful pinkish hue complements all skin tones and looks beautiful teamed with ivory, cream and lace.
And if wedding budgets are a bit tighter than originally hoped, don’t rule out hiring a stunning statement necklace or bracelet – here at Union we offer a very affordable hire service at a fraction of the cost – visit www.unionjewellery.com/statement-jewellery-hire for more information.”
Thanks so much to Hanna from Union for her low-down on the bold and beautiful jewellery they provided for the ‘Hippy Luxe Wedding Inspiration Shoot’ and for her insight into bridal jewellery trends for 2013.
