Kelly and Ben’s wedding journey was a little bumpy in the run up to their amazing Sussex wedding with a destination wedding in Las Vegas that they both managed to miss due to flu and snow. Luckily everything turned out amazing in the end, as they managed to re-do their eighties inspired Vegas wedding and have this gorgeous Sussex wedding day too.

Here’s our Q & A’s with today’s gorgeous Texan bride, Kelly:

Love Sussex Weddings: So Kelly, how did you two get together?

Kelly: I think Ben fell in love when he heard me say Y’ALL, hehe. Ben is English and I am originally from Texas. We met through mutual friends one night in Soho for dinner. We met, had a BLAST and stayed out dancing and talking until 5am. Then, I left (without saying goodbye) as I was soooo tired. Ben stayed at my friend’s house and couldn’t figure out where I had went. Well, eventually, he found out that I left. Next thing I know, I get a text message the following morning asking me out for Valentines day. I let him sweat it for eight hours and then I said yes, I would love to have dinner and drinks. SO, our official first date is Valentines Day in Charlotte Street Hotel.

Love Sussex Weddings: Why did you chose to get married in Sussex?

Kelly: Well, we looked everywhere in England and just couldn’t decide, just too many beautiful places. We found Buxted Park Hotel and completely fell in love with the countryside and stunning manor house. It is everything we had both envisioned our wedding to be. Quintessential English.

Love Sussex Weddings: How did you do your wedding planning?

Kelly: I just looked online and had help from Buxted Park‘s event coordinator, Amy.

Love Sussex Weddings: And where did you get your wedding inspiration?

Kelly: No inspiration really. We just wanted a minimalist Texas-English Wedding.

Love Sussex Weddings: How you would describe your wedding theme?

Kelly: Hmm, Brits N’ boots! My dad wore his cowboy boots and bolo tie as he walked me down the isle, hes a traditional cowboy!

Love Sussex Weddings: What were your wedding colours?

Kelly: My bridesmaids wore black and my maids of honor (my sisters) wore navy blue (they were my something blue).

Love Sussex Weddings: Did you do anything differently at your wedding?

Kelly: Everything was pretty traditional. However, I didn’t wear a veil the second time around.

Oh yes we had 13 groomsmen too! While I got ready in the bridal suite they all went to The Pig and Butcher to have a few pints!

Love Sussex Weddings: Any tips for other Sussex brides to-be?

Kelly: You will have so many people giving you their opinion but, at the end of the day do what you want to do. It is your day and just enjoy every minute of it as it goes by so quickly.

Love Sussex Weddings: Did you add any personal touches to your day?

Kelly: For our photo-booth we provided buddy holly wafer glasses and mustaches (of all sizes and colours), everyone absolutely loved that!! They were a total hit!!

Love Sussex Weddings: What did you enjoy most about planning your wedding?

Kelly: Planning it all with my husband. We had so much fun, we did what we wanted to do.

Love Sussex Weddings: And your least favourite bit?

Kelly: Organizing family stuff from overseas that was the most stressful part as well as people canceling the week before the wedding. That was a bit stressful but, things happen. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Love Sussex Weddings: Any parts of the wedding details that you made yourself?

Kelly: No, I had help on every end. Thank goodness.

Love Sussex Weddings: And finally, any wedding stories to share?

Kelly: Well, we have been married twice. The first time was a year and a half ago in Las Vegas. The funny thing is that we had about 18 guests going, the theme was a cheesy 80’s wedding in the Little White Wedding Chapel and everyone was going dressed up (if we were going down so were the rest of them)! Needless to say, we missed our wedding twice, (due to the severe snow storms in December) we both got severe cases of the flu, all of our friends and family made it out except for us, the Bride and Groom. We were devastated.

We didn’t get out to Vegas until two weeks later. By that time, everyone had gone (due to holiday’s, going back home etc). Lucky enough, my brother, sister and close friend of Ben and I flew back out to Vegas for the second time and were able to be there for our wedding. It was absolutely beautiful. My husband was dressed in a baby blue 80’s tuxedo, I in a proper vintage 80’s mini wedding dress (just like the dress in the Guns N’ Roses video) with a couture birdcage veil. My sis wore a HUGE green velvet dress with giant gold sleeves and my brother wore a tan and brown 80’s tux, it was amazing!
