So this is the final part of Derek and Minori’s beautiful Japanese and seaside inspired Brighton wedding story. We’ve already heard from Minori about their gorgeous Brighton wedding venue (the Royal Pavilion) and planning (in part one) and their wedding details (in part two). So today it’s all about outfits and wedding suppliers. The beautiful photos are by London based wedding photographer, Hayden Phoenix.
Here’s more from our chat with lovely Minori:
Love Sussex Weddings: OK Minori, so tell us about your stunning outfit, we want all the details!
Minori: My dress was the first wedding dress I ever tried. I went to a wedding fair with my husband and mother-in-law, and she found the dress (it was from Brides Visited). I fell in love with it at the first sight. I discussed with my alteration lady about attaching the neck piece afterwards so this dress is the only one in the world.
I couldn’t find any shoes that I liked until just a week before the wedding! I was really stressed but then I saw some shoes online on Debenham’s website, I just thought that I’ve finally found them!
Love Sussex Weddings: You look just stunning in the photos. And how about your jewellery and accessories?
Minori: We got our rings made in Japan. I found a ring designer online and contacted him. I came up with a design and sent it to him, and he made my design into real rings! We also engraved inside the rings, in Japanese on Derek’s ring and in English on my ring.
The jeweller offered to send them to us here but we asked him to send the rings to my parents in Japan, and they brought with them. We received the rings just two days before the wedding! Luckily the rings fitted us perfectly, and we loved them so much (especially the very cute box they came in)!
My sister-in-law gave me a lovely pair of earrings. The pearl bracelet I wore on the day was from my auntie who passed away six years ago. Also my mum in law gave me a lovely watch for my birthday so I wore that too, so I wouldn’t be late for our service!
My hair accessory and veil were from The Wedding Service.
Love Sussex Weddings: Gorgeous! So tell us about your hair and makeup?
Minori: Alaina and Pearl from Bridal Beauty Team did my hair and makeup. They are such a talented bridal team. I wasn’t sure about my makeup and hair style so had to leave it to them and they did an amazing job. I felt really good and special all day. They have made my picture on their front page on their website too!
Love Sussex Weddings: You look amazing in your photos! OK so on to your bridesmaids’ outfits, tell us where you found them?
Minori: We just simply typed “Bridesmaids Dresses” online and found Peridress.co.uk’s website. I was looking at it with my bridesmaid (my sister-in-law), and we found a stunning dress and knew that was her dress straight away. We found cute dresses for our flower girls from this website as well.
Love Sussex Weddings: And Derek and your groomsman?
Minori: The groom, best man and ushers’ suits were all hired from Burtons.
Love Sussex Weddings: They look great too. So tell us about your flowers?
Minori: It was really difficult to find blue flowers but our florist Neil from Planted did an amazing job. He even did a wonderful last minute table decoration the day before the wedding! I discussed my bouquet’s design with Neil and we came up with the idea of an ‘over arm bouquet’. If you are quite tall and your dress is fishtail, I highly recommend going for this style. The bouquet makes you and your dress stand out, and all the guests agreed with me!
Love Sussex Weddings: Great tip, they look fantastic. OK so tell us about your wedding DJ?
Minori: Our DJ was Hotsteppaz Disco from Brighton, Brett is a lovely guy and he definitely made the dance floor busy all night. We had a few requests for him, I asked him to play “Wonderwall” during the picture slideshow, “I’m sexy and I know it” for our first dance and “I no speak Americano” for the best man and ushers’ dance! He timed everything perfectly and gave us the right tunes and atmosphere!
Love Sussex Weddings: That’s great, Brett’s one of our directory listers too, he’s such a nice guy. And how about your wedding car?
Minori: The Morris Minor (from Alfreds Wedding Car) was my dream wedding car, (especially if you add “i” in the end of “Minor”, it becomes my name, Minori!) I didn’t want any big or luxury car, I just wanted a small, cute but beautiful wedding car. Alfred was such a sweet guy, he did a lot of research for us (parking space etc) and even gave me a phone call to make sure I was OK the day before the wedding. We had our photo shoot in the beach, in front of West Pier, and the car was definitely the centre of the attention!
Love Sussex Weddings: We love a wedding Morris Minor, so cute! And can you tell us about your wedding catering?
Minori: The food was provided by The Thistle Hotel. We had it buffet style as we wanted to save a bit of money and came up with the idea of serving it by ourselves. The food was very tasty, especially the Japanese dish, Beef Teriyaki – it was very popular.
Love Sussex Weddings: Sounds yum! OK so anything else to add?
Minori:We had eight drapes and fairy lights from Bows Hire and our amazing table decoration was done by my mum and sister in law. They did a brilliant job!
We also had first dance lessons with First Dance.
Oh yes and our videos were done by Red Carpet Video, here’s the wedding trailer they did for us:
Love Sussex Weddings: Your dance was great, that’s a great idea to take lessons. OK so finally any honeymoon plans?
Minori: We are not going on honeymoon this year, but having our second wedding in Japan next year for my Japanese friends and family who couldn’t make it to our wedding in the UK. We have already booked the venue and set the date. We are going to stay in Japan for three weeks in total, and travel to a few places, so that’s going to be our honeymoon/ wedding/ holiday. I know that’s going to be amazing!!
Love Sussex Wedding: Well jel! Have an amazing second wedding in Japan and thanks so much for sharing your beautiful Brighton wedding with us all.

It’s been lovely to hear about Minori and Derek’s seaside and Japanse inspired wedding ideas and traditions. We are in love with the cute origami favours and home made cherry blossom confetti that Minori made! It’s been great to see the end result of the hours of time and effort they both put in too! They looked so lovely too.
