Today we are featuring a very different kind of love story.
Independent luxury jewellery company, Union who are based in the heart of the Brighton Lanes have created this enchanting Pagan-inspired ‘Union Love Tale’ photo-shoot and video to promote their statement jewellery and to inspire brides and grooms-to-be. The video was launched on the website of the fab Brides Magazine on Friday and the photo-shoot story has been unfolding on tumblr over the last few weeks.
When Hanna from Union got in touch to see if Love Sussex Weddings would like to feature this beautiful inspiration shoot and video, we were immediately enchanted by the innovative concept, beautiful bold jewellery, gorgeous outfits and carefully crafted props (look out for the clever placement of Union‘s logo).
We also loved the fact that this shoot included jewellery inspiration for grooms too (why should brides have all the fun after all!) Hanna told us: ‘We truly believe that there is a place for statement jewellery, both for the bride and the groom as well as for the bridal party.’
Union collaborated with some of the cream of Sussex’s creative and wedding industry talent for the shoot including: Gresham Blake, White Mischief Bridal, Alex Thirlwell (Creative Director of Brighton Fashion Week), Dominika van Santen, and Red Design and Direction. The shoot took place at The Wood Yard at the Knepp Castle Estate near Horsham. The beautiful photography is by Kat Mitchell, and the spellbinding video is by Made by Stupid.
Love Sussex Weddings asked Hanna from Union to tell us a bit about the concept behind the ‘Union Love Tale’ inspiration shoot and video. Hanna told us: ‘We wanted to showcase our statement costume jewellery, and offer it as an alternative option for the wedding market. This led to Red Design’s concept of the alternative wedding, the creation of the heavily pagan inspired theme and story that was developed across the shoot, promo video and store.’
Hanna went on to explain the story depicted in ‘Union Love Tale’: ‘The Union Love Tale is set deep in an enchanted forest. A beautiful Witch Bride casts spells over her beloved City Gent with power derived from her magical jewellery. She uses her dazzling adornments to lure the man she loves. Our hero is eventually led to the altar where the couple come together in Union. The Bride finally brings the groom under her spell, upon which he releases himself to the spirit of the forest. Union Love Tale is all about love, beauty, nature, enchantment and union.’
Hanna also gave us the background to the inspiration behind this shoot. She told us: ‘Statement jewellery is a huge trend and we wanted to show how statement pieces can work for brides. We hope that this shoot will inspire brides-to-be to try different jewellery, whether it is a statement ring or necklace, a headpiece or cuff. The dress in our shoot had a vintage feel to it and we think the contrast between the bold jewellery and the dress looks amazing. The groom also wears a statement watch and cufflinks which are made from vintage watch movements (all available at Union). We also hope that this shoot inspires the whole bridal party to update an existing dress with a necklace or cuff – they don’t necessarily need to buy a new outfit to go to a wedding but they could treat themselves to some jewellery!’
Behind the scenes
Finally we asked Hanna to let us in on what went on behind the scenes on the ‘Union Love Tale’ shoot. She told us: ‘The photo shoot was actually pushed back for over a month due to the unpredictable and continual rain we had at the end of April/early May and it was eventually shot in mid-May. Luckily the weather held for the shoot, though there were some slightly damp feet!’
‘All the props were created at Red’s studios and included a pagan inspired wreath, with a discreet Union logo entwined within it, a custom made leather book to hold the wedding certificate and eventually images from the shoot to showcase in store, heat embossed wood props, and all manner of pagan inspired cups, altars and nests to frame the shoot.’
