So we’ve already seen Charlie and James’ brilliant wedding video in part one. We’ve also heard from Charlie about their family, friends and fun filled village fete-inspired country wedding (in part two). So now we arrive at part three, the legal bit. And what a beautiful and romantic legal bit it is too.
Charlie and James — accompanied by two of their best friends Andy and Emily, and a bottle of champagne — hopped on a train from Brighton to Lewes to hold their legal ceremony at the beautiful Lewes Register Office last year. Luckily for us James’ friend Andy also happens to be super-cool Brighton based wedding photographer Andrew J R Squires, who has captured the romance and intimacy of the day beautifully. This wedding was first featured on the a-mazing Rock n’ Roll Bride wedding blog.
Given that Charlie is a TV journalist (for Sussex’s very own Meridian) and that James’ best man Andy is a wedding photographer extraordinaire. We will leave you in their very capable hands for this gorgeous helping of Sussex wedding inspiration…
Charlie told Love Sussex Weddings: ‘We decided to have an intimate ceremony as our main wedding venue wasn’t registered. We took ourselves off to Lewes Register Office with two of our best friends, Andy and Emily.’
‘The ceremony itself was supposed to be low key and it was but we were unprepared for just how emotional and romantic it was going to be.’
‘James and I got totally choked and it was such a special experience just saying the words in such an intimate setting.’
‘It was a bit of a gloomy start to the day but by the time we were declared as husband and wife the sun was shining for us and we had a perfect afternoon.’
‘We had a fabulous afternoon having photos taken in the gorgeous surroundings of Lewes Register Office.’
‘We had a champagne lunch at Bill’s and the staff there really made the whole experience extra special.’
‘It was a truly magical day and one we will treasure for the rest of our lives. The best bit was knowing the fun had just begun, because our big wedding day was just around the corner…!’

Wow! What a romantic and fun way of doing an intimate legal ceremony in Sussex. We love that Charlie and James made a mini-adventure out of it, drinking champagne on trains, lunching at the gorgeous Bill’s Cafe, and stumbling across cool music stores along the way.
And how cool do Charlie and James look? James is rocking that tweed with no socks look, and Charlie looks like a beautiful 1960’s Hollywood starlet in her gorgeous retro-inspired angel-winged dress. Lewes Register Office is a real local treasure too, set in an Elizabethan Manor House with beautiful gardens and sweeping lawns it must be one of the prettiest register offices in the UK.
Thanks again to Charlie and James for sharing their beautiful day with us. Do have a peek at parts 1 and 2 of their wedding if you haven’t already done so. Love Sussex Weddings will also keep you posted about the next fabulous Brighton Bridal Bootfair (which is run by Charlie and her friend Emily).
